Cheshire Police Neighbourhood Alert

Dear Crofters,

Please see message below from Cheshire Police regarding rogue traders:

Over the weekend we attended an address in Appleton after a resident alerted us to an issue of rogue traders attending their neighbour’s property and carrying out hedge cutting work which was to a poor standard.

The rogue traders called at the address an offered to cut all the hedges and remove the waste for one price, the price was below what they had been quoted by other local firms, this quickly changed once the work had started and they were then told they needed to pay an extra £200 for waste removal, the resident refused to the extra so the cold callers left leaving the residents to make alternative arrangements to have the hedge cuttings removed.

We have been notified of similar incidents occurring in the Warrington South area over the last few days, we would urge residents to remain vigilant and look out for neighbours, if anyone does cold call offering work don’t feel pressured into have any work carried out, even if it something you may be considering having done.

Don’t agree to sign a contract or hand over money at the door. Think about it and talk to someone you trust.

Don’t be embarrassed to say ‘No’ to people or ask them to leave.

In addition, if you pay or agree to pay over £42 for any services or goods that are sold to you in your home, then you have fourteen days to cancel the agreement. If you cancel, any monies that you have paid should then be returned to you.

The trader must give you a written notice of your cancellation rights when you agree the contract.

If you are visited by a cold caller and you feel they may not be genuine please call us on 101.
